Summary: Micrel announces the industry's smallest and most powerful light-emitting diode (LED) driver for portable devices, the MIC2298. The device is a 7-watt high efficiency step-up DC-to-DC converter packaged in a small 3 mm X3 mm MLF(R) package. This high efficiency makes the battery last longer, and its ultra-small size makes Micrel's MIC2298 the best solution for driving high-brightness LEDs in advanced mobile phones and PDA devices. The MIC2298 solution requires only a small 2.2uH inductor and a small ceramic capacitor to minimize its size and minimize the cost of the solution. In addition, this solution operates from an input voltage range of 2.5 volts to 10 volts, consistent with the operating range of single- and dual-cell lithium batteries.
