Kevo's main feature is pairing with a (pre-authorized) mobile phone via Bluetooth. The door can be opened with a light touch of the door lock.

First of all, Kevo retains the traditional lock style in appearance, considering that this is an object placed outside the door. Sometimes low-key is more important than forcing, and does not attract thieves.

Only when the user's fingers touch, Kevo's special place will be reflected. After the user touches, a blue LED lights first to indicate that it is thinking. If the pairing with your phone is successful, the LED turns green to unlock; if it fails, it is displayed in red. In case of a locked door, a circle of yellow LEDs indicates that it is locked. When the red light of the door lock flashes, it means that the battery needs to be replaced.

This LED also has a feature. When the owner is in the door, there will only be a circle of blue LEDs after the person outside the door touches the door lock. Then there is no more. The beauty of this design is that you can prevent people outside the door from unlocking through your phone on the door or easily telling you that you are not at home.

In use, Kevo uses a calibration procedure to determine if the user is inside or outside the door (set it only once). The process is simple: Just press the calibration button, put your phone near the door for a few seconds, and then go out and do the same, Kevo's LED will turn green. After calibration, Kevo needs you to stand at the door (usually at the door mat) and the recognition rate is 100%. If the position of the station is left or right, the recognition rate is reduced to 80%-90%. But if you are in the door, it will not be recognized at all.

Kevo initially presets the keys on the phone through a matching app. Download the free Kevo app on the App Store to pair with the lock. The model supports the iPhone 4s and later generations, the fifth-generation iPod Touch, the third-generation iPad and above, and two generations of the iPad mini. Android applications are not yet available, but Kwikset said it will follow suit soon.

Each Kevo Bluetooth door lock has at least two electronic keys, and new users can also get an additional five keys. If you are not at home, you can use the app on your mobile phone to release your friend to the door first. On the App, users can manage these keys (for example, if the phone is lost, they can delete their keys as soon as possible), and they can also check the status of entering and exiting the home (this can be used for users who are particularly insecure).

Of course, you can also retrieve the lock permission via email. In addition, the highest authority is only held by the owner, and other users can only unlock or lock the door. For those users who don’t use the phone or are still using the key (such as the elderly), Kevo also has a traditional physical keyhole. The kit also has a Bluetooth key chain and a traditional key. The former uses the same as the mobile phone, while the latter does not need to speak more. Once the electronic component fails, no door will open (unless you put the key at home).

If your iPhone is unfortunately lost, you need to log in to the official website as soon as possible or use another iOS device to log in to the application, delete all electronic keys and log off the device, so you need to look at your iPhone.

However, Kevo currently has one obvious drawback: lack of agreement with smart homes (such as Z-Wave, Zigbee, or Wi-Fi), which makes it almost impossible to interact with other smart home products.

Kevo is currently priced at 299 US dollars, it is not cheap, but Kevo reflects not only the novelty, as well as details. In terms of reliability, we also need more time and more users to test such new products. Kevo still allows us to see the trend of further integration of technology and life. The door lock is not changed. What we need is a simpler experience.

When most people face smart door locks, the biggest concern is always security. After all, unlocking a door with a smart phone or an electronic virtual key does not give more security than a real key.
