DOE Announces Second Draft of ENERGY STAR's Standard for SSL Outdoor Lighting

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has just released the second draft of ENERGY STAR's performance standards for three SSL luminaires: outdoor pole-type luminaires and road lighting, outdoor wall-mounted lighting and parking lot lighting.

The DOE said that the current draft standard is due to:

· These new products are being launched on a regular basis;

· Energy efficiency projects, municipalities and other project investors indicated that they should attach great importance to the application of these products;

· These listed luminaires have been tested by the CALiPER project and the results show that these luminaires have a wide range of performance;

• Demonstration projects are hosted by utilities, municipalities, and the DOE GATEWAY project team, demonstrating the potential for energy savings in these fixtures, and for these applications, a minimum of performance criteria needs to be defined.

The US Department of Energy has also defined FTE (fitned target efficacy) indicators for quantifying the performance of outdoor pole-type luminaires because other existing independent project metrics do not adequately measure the performance of the luminaires, so that these luminaires will Delivered to a predetermined target area.

Performance standard

The proposed “A” (short-term application) standard adds lighting for outdoor and parking area areas. The lamps covered are as follows:

1. Outdoor pole type and road lighting: In terms of application, the minimum light output of the luminaire is required to reach 1000 lm (initial luminous flux), regardless of whether the luminaire is protective or unprotected, the output power is high or low, and the luminaire is specific The minimum level of target performance will also change.

2. Outdoor wall-mounted lighting fixtures: In addition to other indicators, in terms of applications, the minimum light output of the fixture is required to reach 300 lm (initial luminous flux).

3. Parking lot lighting: In addition to other indicators, in terms of application areas, the minimum light output of the luminaire is required to reach 2000 lm (initial luminous flux).

The US Department of Energy will invite project investors to review and comment on the draft of the second draft, with a deadline of July 31, 2009.
