Bosch recently made a strong appearance at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show (NACV) in Atlanta, showcasing a range of cutting-edge technologies aimed at revolutionizing commercial vehicles. Among the highlights was a 15-inch free-programmable cluster, which is currently the largest digital instrument panel available for commercial vehicles. This advanced display supports future-safe driving and automation, integrating seamlessly with advanced driver assistance systems. The 15-inch monitor has two versatile modes: it can function as a dashboard in landscape mode or as a key component of a mirror system in portrait mode, replacing traditional rearview mirrors to improve energy efficiency and reduce drag. This innovation not only enhances driver visibility but also contributes to a more sustainable fleet operation. Another major highlight was Bosch’s Central Gateway (CGW), designed to enable vehicle networking for commercial vehicles. As a central communication node, it acts as a router for in-vehicle communication, allowing secure data exchange between the vehicle and external networks through a connection control unit (CCU). The CGW serves as a gateway for all incoming data, ensuring vehicle network security via a protective wall and intrusion detection. Bosch’s ETAS and ESCRYPT divisions provide essential transmission and encryption technologies to support on-board security functions and data protection. In addition, Bosch showcased powertrain innovations such as the eCity Truck and eAxle, which are designed to save fuel, reduce costs, and extend the lifespan of commercial fleets. The eCity Truck is a flexible and expandable diesel hybrid system that integrates with light commercial vehicles, making it easier to transition from traditional diesel platforms to diesel-electric trucks. The eAxle itself is a modular platform that combines motor, inverter, and drive components into a compact unit, offering scalability and efficiency. Another key innovation is the advanced dual planetary gearbox (e2PG), part of the MURECP project. This system enables multiple clutches to reduce fuel consumption by over 50% during real-world driving cycles. It allows for scalable battery configurations, supporting pure electric driving in city centers with zero emissions. The e2PG architecture optimizes performance while reducing fuel consumption through deep integration of two motors. Bosch also presented its Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), which supports the diversification of powertrains and advances autonomous driving and connectivity features. The VCU offers an expandable electrical/electronic (E/E) architecture, enabling continuous improvements in energy-efficient, connected, and self-driving vehicles. Thermal management was another focus, with Bosch demonstrating how efficient heat flow control improves energy efficiency across all vehicle types—traditional diesel, hybrid, and electric. Their thermal systems include fans, pumps, and valves, optimizing energy management and enhancing comfort with energy-efficient HVAC solutions. Additionally, Bosch introduced the Innovative Electronically Rectifier Actuator (ECA), a DC motor platform designed to enhance braking performance and environmental friendliness in commercial vehicles. The ECA enables high-precision actuation in engine compartments, chassis, and powertrain applications. For driver assistance, Bosch showcased a range of ADAS-related equipment, including multi-function cameras and the Servotwin steering system. These technologies support lane keeping, cross-wind compensation, and other critical functions for autonomous driving. Bosch’s demonstration trucks highlighted how these systems work together to enhance safety and driving experience.
