In the fiercely competitive Chinese automotive market, SUVs have always been a key battleground for major manufacturers. Ssangyong Motor, a South Korean brand known for its strong presence in the SUV segment, is no exception. At this year’s Beijing International Auto Show, Ssangyong unveiled its new model, the Tuling, which is set to make a significant impact in the Chinese market. The car is expected to play a crucial role in revitalizing the brand's image and has generated a lot of excitement among consumers. The estimated guide price ranges from 13.98 to 23.98 million yuan.
The exterior design of the Tuling XLV is modern and youthful, with a striking suspended roof that adds to its visual appeal. The overall design follows the same family-style concept as previous models like the Tivola, with a strong resemblance in both front and rear styling elements.
Interestingly, the Tuling XLV can be seen as an extended version of the Tivola. It measures 4,495 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width, and 1,590 mm in height, making it 300 mm longer than the current Tivola model. This increase in size gives it a more spacious and commanding presence on the road.
Inside, the Tuling features a tech-oriented interior with a large three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, premium leather upholstery that offers a comfortable grip, and a well-designed center console. A prominent large LCD screen adds to the high-tech feel of the cabin. The layout of the air-conditioning panel buttons is logical and user-friendly. In terms of features, the car comes equipped with a stability control system, hill assist, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, and GPS navigation. The overall configuration is impressive and offers good value for money.
Under the hood, the Tuling is available in both diesel and gasoline variants. The gasoline version is powered by a 1.6L naturally aspirated engine, delivering 94 kW (128 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 160 Nm of torque at 4,600 rpm. The diesel variant uses a 1.6T turbocharged engine, producing 85 kW (115 PS) between 3,400–4,000 rpm and an impressive 300 Nm of torque between 1,500–2,500 rpm. The powertrain is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission from Aisin. Additionally, the new model will be offered in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations, giving buyers more flexibility depending on their driving needs.
