SH7263 Digital Car Audio System

Compressed audio formats are widely used in PC and audio systems worldwide. In response to this type of digital audio signal, Renesas Technology has introduced the SH7263 high-performance microcontroller with integrated SH2A-FPU core. The LSI's maximum operating frequency is 200MHz, which combines single-precision and double-precision calculations to support FPU, which enables high-speed signal processing. The SH7263 features an on-chip CD-ROM decoder and sample rate converter, making it ideal for use in digital audio systems such as automotive audio and home audio with audio encoding and decoding.

In addition, the LSI also integrates a host and function interface that meets the USB standard v2.0 high speed (480 Mbps) specifications, and a display controller that supports a WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) LCD panel. These features provide display system functionality and enable low-cost configuration of digital audio players that perform high-speed data transfers by connecting USB flash memory or portable audio or similar USB devices.

The system block diagram of the entire digital car audio system is shown in Figure 2. One 16-bit MCU is responsible for system control functions, while the SH7263 acts as a slave device to receive commands on the system MCU through the UART. Not only the CD panel, but also three main storage devices (SD, USB and NAND Flash) are attached to the SH7263. With the help of middleware, the CD-DA 16-bit PCM format code can be compiled into MP3/AAC format code and stored in SD, USB or NAND Flash memory. The maximum speed of the capture process is about 4 times that of the AAC format and 3.2 times that of the MP3 format. At the same time, MP3/AAC/WMA decoder middleware is provided to decode such formats and output them to the power amplifier.

The software structure of the SH7263 is shown in Figure 3, and the entire software runs under uITRON OS 4.0. In addition to uITRON OS, it can be divided into 3 layers: user API, framework layer and driver layer. Within the framework or middleware layer, it can be divided into a codec framework, an IOIF framework, and a file system framework, and each framework has its own specific functionality. The codec framework is primarily responsible for audio encoding and decoding. The IOIF framework is used to emulate the POSIX API interface of the user API and control the hardware through the driver layer. File systems such as FAT and ISO9660 can be processed using the file system framework.
