In the competitive Chinese automotive market, SUVs have always been a key segment for major manufacturers. Ssangyong Motor, a South Korean brand known for its strong presence in the SUV sector, has not missed the opportunity to make a splash. At this year’s Beijing International Auto Show, Ssangyong introduced its new model, the Tuling, which is now on the market with high expectations for revitalizing its presence in China. The car is expected to be a strong contender, with an estimated guide price ranging from 13.98 to 23.98 million yuan.
The exterior design of the Tuling XLV is youthful and eye-catching, featuring a suspended roof that adds a modern touch. Overall, the design follows the same family-style concept as previous models, especially resembling the Tivila in both front and rear styling. This consistency in design language helps reinforce the brand’s identity while offering a fresh look.
The Tuling XLV can be seen as an extended version of the Tiffala. Its dimensions are 4495mm in length, 1795mm in width, and 1590mm in height, making it 300mm longer than the current Tiffa model. This increase in size gives the vehicle a more spacious and commanding presence on the road.
Inside, the Tuling offers a tech-forward interior. It features a large three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel wrapped in premium leather, providing a comfortable grip. The center console is well-designed, and the large LCD screen in the middle adds a high-tech feel. The layout of the air-conditioning panel buttons is logical and user-friendly. In terms of features, the car comes equipped with a body stability system, hill-start assist, leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, and GPS navigation—making it well-equipped for everyday use.
The chassis uses a McPherson independent suspension at the front and a torsion beam suspension at the rear. It is front-wheel drive, with a unibody structure and a handbrake for parking. This setup ensures a balance between comfort and practicality.
Under the hood, the Tuling offers both diesel and gasoline options. The gasoline version is powered by a 1.6L naturally aspirated engine, delivering 94kW (128Ps) at 6000rpm and 160Nm of torque at 4600rpm. The diesel variant uses a 1.6T turbocharged engine, producing 85kW (115Ps) between 3400–4000rpm and 300Nm of torque between 1500–2500rpm. The powertrain is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission. Additionally, the car will be available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations, giving buyers more flexibility based on their driving needs.
