China's Smartphone Industry Faces Patent Risk

The Institute of Electronic Science and Technology Information of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the “World Information Technology Industry Development Report (2014-2015)” on the 21st. The report believes that with the increasing competition in the field of smartphones, the number of patent disputes and patent litigations has risen significantly. The development of the smart phone industry faces severe patent risks.

According to the report, patents are an important measure of industrial R&D and innovation capabilities, and the patent layout is a future “enclosure movement”. First, give full play to the role of the government's industry guidance. Second, tighten the design and UI patent authorization to promote a reasonable competition in the industry. Third, increase the research and development of peripheral application patents, focusing on digestion, absorption, and reuse. Fourth, establish a national patent operation company and actively promote patent acquisition. Fifth, lay out forward-looking technology and seize the opportunities for future development.

The "Mobile Internet Industry Development Report (2014-2015)" released on the same day pointed out that offline activities such as taxi, housekeeping, and community activities have become the focus of commercial competition. In the taxi application market in China, dives and quick taxis together accounted for 80% of the market share. A large number of taxi service teams were out or transitioned, and the taxi service industry entered the duopoly era.
