Interpretation of 3W ceiling light CLEAR test report power factor is ignored

[Text / high-tech LED reporter Zhu Chunwei] At the same time that LED lamps gradually penetrated into the hands of ordinary consumers, the problem of exposure is becoming more and more obvious. Especially in the performance of parameters that some consumers do not fully understand, many manufacturers deliberately do not mark or do not match the actuality of the label, in order to fool consumers.

Consumers often pay attention to wattage, light efficiency, color temperature and other parameters when purchasing lamps, and the power factor is often ignored. At the same time, the country's requirements for low-power lamps are not very strict, so some manufacturers have "ignored" this piece.

According to the data of 23 3W LED ceiling lamps branded by Gaogong LED's fourth round CLEAR test project, there is only one product power factor clearly indicated, the product nominal parameter is 0.5, the actual measurement is 0.4683, and the error rate is 4%. The actual test results of the other 22 lamps are below 0.5, the average is 0.3254, and the pass rate is 0.

The US Energy Star standard requires a power factor of 0.5.

Power factor is a factor that measures the efficiency of electrical equipment. It is the ratio of active power to apparent power in an AC circuit: power factor = active power / apparent power. The low power factor indicates that the reactive power for the alternating magnetic field throughput conversion in the circuit is large, thereby reducing the utilization of the device and increasing the line power loss. Therefore, the power supply department has certain standard requirements for the user's power factor.

Since the higher the power factor is, the better it is for the national grid and the consumers, why do manufacturers have to hide these parameters and do not do it high enough?

“For small-power lamps such as 3W LED ceiling lamps, many companies will not consider power factors. Especially in the case of a small number of personal households, energy consumption and harmonic interference to the power grid are relatively small. Can be ignored." Chen Zhongzhi, director of photoelectric technology at Leyford, said that once the number of lighting used in the building is large, the power factor of the luminaire must be considered.

Zhou Guangjun, deputy general manager of Anhui Zhenhua Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. also said that the low power factor of low-power lamps is mainly due to cost considerations. If the power factor of the ground luminaire is 0.5 or higher, a better power supply is required, and the capacitor component is added to the power supply design, so that the price of the power supply must be doubled. And the power factor has little effect on the light-emitting effect and service life of the lamp itself.

In the case that the price of LED lamps is declining and profits are becoming increasingly thin, manufacturers will inevitably “blind” in order to match the market price, and walk on the edge of national standards.
