Tridonic is working on developing connectivity solutions in the IoT era. The company's developers have created a future-oriented hardware and software platform called net4more. The net4more toolbox will be on display at the 2016 Lighting and Architecture Expo, including LED drivers, communication modules, sensors, routers, software and applications. It provides access to data without the need for an additional gateway, so it becomes a platform for development services beyond the scope of lighting, such as indoor navigation and space management.

For example, the software architecture is an open standard based on the IPv6 Internet Protocol, which uses a low-power version of IPv6 that operates like a low-energy version of wifi with networking capabilities, and the application and communication layers also use common open standards. . In addition, net4more is the first system to allow both wired and wireless communications – and it can be extended to buildings or areas of any size.

Ready2mains indicates how power is transmitted and uses the power cable to transmit data. The luminaires are controlled directly via the mains supply and dimmed without any additional wiring. This technology has been integrated into all LED drivers in the TALEXXdriver EXCITE and PREMIUM series.

Lighting manufacturer Thorn has used ready2mains in its Omega LED, Omega Pro, Chalice and Chalice Pro fixtures. For office applications, Thorn is demonstrating its lighting modernization "LIMOSet" kit, which is cost-effective and easy to operate toolboxes to rebuild small and medium-sized offices, which can be used on a large scale. The “r2m Refurbishment Kit” allows easy replacement of existing devices with Thorn's Omega LEDs, Omega Pro, Chalice and Chalice Pro without the need for lighting control.

Ready2mains Programmer

The interface between the control unit and the luminaire is the ready2mains gateway, which sends digital dimming commands via the mains to ensure reliable and stable data transfer. No additional data lines are required, such as DALI/DSI or 1-10V systems. Multiple control units or gateways can be used in parallel if required.

The Tready2mains portfolio also includes a programmer. By using a programmer during the production phase, luminaire manufacturers can benefit because automating the luminaires through the mains will save time and money. The programmer uses a simple phase control for digital command transmission. Configuration commands are transmitted in this manner, such as the output current required by the LED driver or the virtual midnight function of the Led Street Light. The current can be configured in 1mA steps to achieve the desired precision illumination. Up to five drives (up to 400W) can be configured in parallel. Ready2mains integrates programming capabilities into existing production lines with great flexibility. For simple integration into automated test programs, a USB interface is provided along with a suitable software driver.

DC-String

Another highlight of Tridonic is the DC-String technology, which is specifically used in the Zumtoid SUPERSYSTEM II – modular, versatile LED lighting system that provides a new perspective for lighting design and provides the flexibility to position the luminaire at will.

With the TALEXXengine DC-String, Tridonic offers an LED solution that differentiates AC/DC converters and DC/DC components. In current LED lighting solutions, each LED light source requires an LED driver that includes an AC/DC converter and a DC/DC component. The AC/DC converter occupies most of the space of the LED driver while determining the minimum size of the part. Separation from DC/DC components allows for further miniaturization and even greater design freedom of LED luminaires. If installed downstream, the lighting system can be used as a low voltage DC LED system. Each light source or luminaire is now only equipped with a low profile, compact DC/DC module or module that has been integrated into the light source.

DALI and emergency lighting components will also be centrally connected to the AC/DC converter without the need to connect them to individual LED sources. The DALI dimming command is converted to a digital power line signal of the DC/DC module by a DALI converter. The system is still compatible with DALI, and each light source is used as a separate address.

Upgrading existing lighting systems is equally simple, such as upgrading a non-dimmable lighting system to a dimmable lighting solution. It is sufficient to replace the existing light source with a DC/DC module and, if needed, to connect higher level centralized AC/DC converters as well as DALI and emergency lighting components.

Outdoor product combination

Tridonic exhibited an expanded outdoor product portfolio at the booth and demonstrated it through the Thorn luminaire R2L2. The TALEXXdriver PREMIUM OTD series and the recently introduced LED Module TALEXXmodule RLE EXCITE OTD form a coordinated and efficient system.

All versions are equipped with ready2mains/U6Me2 and one4all interfaces. Therefore, the drive has the flexibility to meet different lighting requirements.
