Foreword
First of all, I would like to thank you for giving me a chance to test the Egret A6 Smart Drive Blu-ray Disc Player (A6 for short) at the start of the New Year. I hope the platform will become even more powerful in the new year! Now, let me briefly introduce my movie experience.
I consider myself a true Blu-ray enthusiast—not the kind of online pseudo-blue light seen in boxes, but real Blu-ray original movies. After watching some films in the cinema, I felt the need to own a Blu-ray disc and eventually did so after a few months. It was an amazing experience to enjoy the visual impact of Blu-ray again. Especially 3D Blu-ray, which is much better than cinema. The playback devices I used were PS4 and LG Blu-ray players.
However, some movies are hard to find genuine Blu-ray discs at home, so I had to download them via torrent. The problem here is that more and more Blu-ray discs now come with Cinavia's silent watermarks, which can be really frustrating. Three years ago, I invested around 6,000 yuan to set up a dedicated living room system for watching Blu-ray. The machine came with AnyDVD software to bypass Cinavia, but watching 3D Blu-ray required entering NVIDIA settings and taking about 10 minutes of preparation.
I was looking for a powerful and easy-to-use Blu-ray player. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The Egret A6 fully meets all my requirements and has become my go-to device.
Out of the Box
After confirming my participation in the trial, the product was sent from Beijing to Wuxi, Jiangsu, within just two days. The delivery efficiency of Guoguo and Shunfeng was impressive.
The packaging of the A6 follows Yigerui’s style—black and gold fonts, which give it a premium feel. The package highlights include 4K 60Hz output, support for Blu-ray native menus, and poster wall features, which caught my attention.
Inside the box, I found an HDMI 2.0A cable supporting 4K UHD 60Hz, a host protection sponge, the A6 itself, a remote control, batteries, a power supply, and various cables. The A6 is compact, almost the same size as the remote control. Compared to the A10 Pro, it’s much smaller. The remote control is sleek and user-friendly, with a backlight feature similar to the A10 Pro.
The A6 has a matte black finish, different from the A10 Pro’s brushed metal. On the front, there are logos on the top left and bottom left. The right side houses a hard disk enclosure, designed for 3.5-inch desktop drives. The back includes multiple ports: cooling fan, 12V power input, USB 2.0/3.0, HDMI, and audio/video outputs. The bottom feet are covered with soundproof rubber to reduce vibrations.
The A6 uses an external power supply module, and the manual is very detailed, with 76 pages of explanations. The LED panel displays current status, such as resolution, time, and connected devices.
Comparison with A10 Pro
The biggest difference between the A6 and A10 Pro is its smaller size and built-in dual-band WiFi antenna. While the A10 Pro has a brushed silver finish, the A6 has a matte black one. Although the A6 lacks some advanced features like internal power supply and SATA interface, it still offers a wide range of ports suitable for most users.
Internal Structure
Unscrewing the bottom and back screws reveals the internal components, including the dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth module. The A6 uses a Hass Hi3798C 4K chip, Samsung eMMC 8GB, and Hynix DDR3 memory. The cooling system ensures efficient heat dissipation.
USB 3.0 Speed Test
Blu-ray 4K Ultra HD movies require high-speed USB 3.0 interfaces. Testing with a 1.13GB file showed read speeds of 43.7MB/s and write speeds of 40MB/s, which are sufficient for 4K content.
WiFi Speed Test
Using a 5G signal, the A6 achieved a speed of 12.6MB/s, which is enough for streaming 4K Blu-ray through LAN sharing.
System Function Introduction
The A6 runs a deeply customized Android system, allowing users to customize settings, manage subtitles, and access online apps. It supports Kodi (XBMC) and special effects subtitles.
Video Play Experience
The A6 supports SAMBA/NFS LAN sharing, making it easy to stream movies without constantly swapping disks. The poster wall feature automatically organizes movies, making navigation simple and visually appealing.
Play Experience
Connected to a BOSE V35 home theater system and a Dafa 65-inch 4K TV, the A6 delivered excellent video and audio quality. The 3D Blu-ray playback was smooth, and the image engine allowed for manual adjustments.
Summary
For Blu-ray enthusiasts, using a PC to play Blu-ray is complicated, while regular TV boxes struggle with ISO files. The Egret A6 fills this gap, offering a professional yet user-friendly solution. It simplifies the process by handling decoding and output, while its online subtitle matching and poster wall features make it a must-have for any Blu-ray lover. If you're like me, why not own an A6?
