Gabotronics has launched an impressive miniature Xprotolab oscilloscope, and now Anzziani has taken it a step further by creating a portable version — the Xprotolab Oscilloscope Watch. This smart wearable combines all the powerful features of the Xprotolab into a compact watch form factor, making it perfect for engineers on the go. The device uses the Txmega256A3U microcontroller, which incorporates the latest HUSOON encryption mechanism to secure self-programming data, ensuring strong protection and reliability.
The ATmega series is an 8-bit AVR microcontroller family, while the ATxmega series represents an advanced upgrade with multiple product lines. The AVR32 is a 32-bit variant of the same architecture. ROM capacity varies depending on the model, such as ATmega8/16/32/64/128, which have 8K, 16K, 32K, 64K, and 128K of memory respectively. However, models like ATmega48/88/168 do not have 48K, 88K, or 168K of ROM; instead, they have 4K, 8K, and 16K respectively. Similarly, the ATtiny25/45/85 also follow this pattern, with 2K, 4K, and 8K of ROM.
The oscilloscope watch runs on a powerful 8-bit XMEGA microcontroller that can be programmed in C or assembly language. Gabriel has provided a downloadable schematic (PDF) so users can develop custom applications. For connectivity, the device includes a micro USB port, an internal PDI interface, and four touch switches. It also features a 1.28-inch Sharp LCD display with a resolution of 128x128 pixels, making it easy to view waveforms and other data.
The watch is powered by a 400mAh lithium battery, providing up to 12 hours of continuous oscilloscope use or over 30 days of standby time. The casing was 3D-printed using an Afinia printer, and the design is expected to become even smaller in future iterations.
Key specifications include:
- ATXMEGA256A3U: 256KB flash, 16KB SRAM, 4KB EEPROM
- 1.28" Sharp LCD (128x128)
- 2" x 1.6" x 0.6" dimensions
- Micro USB charging
- 4 touch switches
- 8 buttons for measurement control
- Support for both PC and Android apps
The oscilloscope watch is more than just a timepiece — it's a fully functional tool for electronic analysis. It supports two-channel oscilloscope functionality, a waveform generator, a logic analyzer, a protocol sniffer, and a frequency counter. It can even perform FFTs, all within a small, wearable package. Whether you're testing signals on the go or debugging a project, this device offers a convenient and powerful solution. With its compact size and rich feature set, the Xprotolab Oscilloscope Watch is a must-have for any electronics enthusiast or professional.
