Gabotronics has launched a compact Xprotolab oscilloscope, and now Anzziani has taken it a step further by developing a portable version — the Xprotolab Oscilloscope Watch. This innovative device combines the functionality of a full-featured oscilloscope with the convenience of a wearable smartwatch. It features the powerful ATxmega256A3U microcontroller, which uses the latest HUSOON encryption to secure self-programming data, offering strong protection and reliability.
The ATxmega series is an advanced 8-bit AVR microcontroller, designed as an upgrade from the ATmega series. The ATmega family includes models like ATmega8, ATmega16, ATmega32, ATmega64, and ATmega128, each with different ROM capacities ranging from 8KB to 128KB. However, models such as ATmega48, ATmega88, and ATmega168 have only 4KB, 8KB, and 16KB of ROM, respectively. Similarly, the ATtiny series (ATtiny25, ATtiny45, ATtiny85) also has limited memory, with 2KB, 4KB, and 8KB of ROM, respectively.
The Xprotolab Oscilloscope Watch is equipped with a 1.28-inch Sharp LCD screen, measuring 2" x 1.6" x 0.6", and runs on a 400mAh lithium battery that lasts up to 12 hours during use and over 30 days in standby mode. It supports USB connectivity for both PC and Android applications, and includes a PDI interface for programming. The device also features four touch buttons and a micro USB port for charging and data transfer.
The watch can function as a two-channel oscilloscope, logic analyzer, waveform generator, protocol sniffer, and frequency counter, making it a versatile tool for electronics enthusiasts and engineers. Gabriel, the creator, has shared a schematic for users to customize and develop their own applications. A special BNC adapter with a 9-pin connector allows compatibility with standard test probes.
The design is printed using an Afinia 3D printer, and future versions are expected to be even smaller. The oscilloscope watch not only serves as a measurement tool but also functions as a regular watch, displaying time, date, and alarms. With its compact size and wide range of features, this device is set to become a must-have for hobbyists and professionals alike.
