On July 18, 2017, the China Smart Display and Innovation Application Industry Conference, along with the 44th CRC Color TV Industry Research Quarterly Press Conference, took place at the Pullman Beijing Xingji Hotel. The event was organized under the guidance of the Department of Electronic Information Management of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in collaboration with the China Electronics Video Industry Association (CVIA). Industry leaders, including representatives from associations, material suppliers, manufacturers, brands, and content providers, gathered to discuss the latest trends and innovations in the color TV industry.
The conference theme was “Innovation, Age, and Together,†highlighting the importance of technological progress and collaboration in the evolving display market. During the event, the “2017 China TV Market Semi-Annual Summary Report†was released, offering valuable insights into the current state and future direction of the industry. Sharp’s new color technology also received recognition, winning the “2017 Innovation Technology†award from CVIA.
So, what exactly is this groundbreaking color technology? Let’s take a closer look.
Huangcai, introduced by Sharp back in 2011, is a proprietary technology designed to enhance image quality. It uses a direct-type backlight structure that allows for precise control over each backlight zone based on the brightness and darkness levels in the image. This enables dynamic adjustment of brightness, resulting in richer colors, deeper blacks, and improved contrast. The technology also incorporates advanced image processing to enhance clarity and detail, making every scene more vivid and lifelike.
For example, if you try to watch an old version of the 1986 "Journey to the West" on your TV, you might notice the poor video quality due to outdated technology. Huangcai can help improve this experience by using a patented algorithm to decode and enhance the source material. With a high-brightness screen and wide color gamut, it effectively reduces visual artifacts, giving the illusion of a cleaner, more vibrant picture—like wiping away dust from an old film.
Previously, Huangcai was only available in a limited number of high-end Sharp models, which made it relatively expensive. However, the latest model, the Despatch S60, now features this technology at a much more affordable price. If you're interested, you can check out the product on platforms like Foxconn's e-commerce site or JD.com.
