Lighting Japan 2010 Post-Conference Report 5 - Thermal and Light Guide Technology Showcase

In this Lighting Japan 2010 exhibition, many Japanese manufacturers showcase excellent material technologies and introduce various technologies into the LED field. Due to the different heat dissipation LEDs of LEDs, the required heat dissipation coefficient is different. Generally, for LED applications below 0.2W, the FR4 substrate is sufficient. For LEDs above 1W, metal substrates are usually used for heat dissipation. However, since the metal substrate is 3-4 times more expensive than the FR4, Panasonic offers the Ecool series of substrates to provide LED manufacturers with a new choice between FR4 and metal substrates. In addition, Hitachi Chemical has also demonstrated the same range of products.

In addition to the heat-dissipating substrate, many manufacturers have also exhibited various heat-dissipating materials in the exhibition. For example, the Shougu Blade Research Institute has introduced a heat-dissipating material for stone grinding materials. The STC series has a thermal conductivity of up to 600 W/mK. However, the display in the venue can only be applied to the heat dissipation on the CPU, and has not been applied to the smaller LED lighting products.

In addition, the SinoDiamond LED from China also introduced the diamond-like DLC series material (Diamond like carbon) with a thermal conductivity of 475 W/mk. This material can be used to replace the thermal conductive adhesive and is applied to the MCPCB by coating.

Sanpulong Optoelectronic Materials, which was transferred from Taiwan Institute of Technology and Materials Technology, also exhibited its light guide plate products in this exhibition. The company's light guide plate claims that the light transmittance can reach more than 90%, and the light source uniformity is also more than 80%. This value is a very good value in the venue.

Sumitomo Corporation also launched a series of light guide products in the exhibition. In addition to the 89% light transmittance series, the light guide plate is also applied to special lighting fixtures.


In addition, Sumitomo also displayed products that are surface treated on both sides of the light guide plate, so that the light guide plate can be illuminated on both sides, which is very suitable for application on advertising signs.
