China Unicom released the latest operational data yesterday. Data show that after the loss of 1.609 million in March, China Unicom mobile users lost 2.532 million in April this year, the total dropped to 292 million. This is China Unicom's loss of mobile subscribers for three consecutive months, mainly because the loss of GSM subscribers has significantly exceeded the number of new subscribers in 3G and 4G.
Unicom data shows that in April this year, China Unicom's 3G and 4G subscribers increased by 691,000 to 152 million; but GSM subscribers lost 3.23 million to 140 million. That is to say, China Unicom has more than 3.22 million 2G users stopping 2G services every month, but only 690,000 users choose to use Unicom's 3G or 4G services. The conversion ratio is only 21%.
In fact, after China Mobile launched 4G last year, China Unicom’s mobile subscribers began to decline. In January of this year, China Unicom's new mobile subscribers were only 83,000, a record low. In February this year, the number of China Unicom mobile subscribers began to plummet. In the same month, Unicom mobile subscribers plunged 2.821 million, the total dropped to 296.36 million; the number of 3G/4G subscribers (mobile broadband subscribers) increased by 561,000 to a total of 150.55 million; GSM subscribers plunged 3.382 million, dropping to 148.81 million.
Analysis said that all 4G licenses are late for trouble
On May 19, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the latest data showing that in April this year, the total number of mobile users in China reached 1.293 billion; the monthly average net increase of 4G mobile phone users exceeded 20 million, and mobile broadband users (3G+4G) accounted for nearly 50%. %.
The report also shows that from January to April this year, China's mobile phone users increased by 6.862 million, and the total number of mobile users reached 1.293 billion. Among them, the mobile phone user structure continued to be optimized. The cumulative increase of mobile broadband users was 61.723 million, which was 7.6% higher than the same period of the previous year. The total number reached 644 million, and the total number of mobile phone users increased to 49.8%. Among them, the rapid growth of mobile broadband users is almost entirely driven by the development of 4G users. In April, the net increase was 16.03 million, with a total of 178 million, accounting for 13.8% of mobile phone users.
In other words, in the first four months of this year, China Mobile users 2G changed direction to 4G. The 2G users that China Unicom disappeared were taken away by the other two. According to data released by China Telecom, the number of telecom mobile subscribers increased by 1.25 million in March this year.
Analysts said that in addition to China Unicom's 4G license late, and the small force, there are still some users of the natural loss of non-real-name users.
In 2013, China Mobile acquired the LTE TDD license and launched its 4G business. However, until February 27 this year, China Unicom officially obtained the LTE FDD4G license.
