Global mobile Internet revenue will exceed fixed broadband in 2014

According to foreign media reports, a research result released by PricewaterhouseCoopers on Wednesday showed that mobile Internet revenue is expected to reach US $ 259 billion in 2014 and break through US $ 385 billion in 2017, accounting for 58% of global Internet spending.

PricewaterhouseCoopers pointed out in the report: "For years, home broadband has been the most commonly used way for people to access the Internet; today, a completely different form is becoming mainstream: through mobile broadband Internet access, the most commonly used devices for people It ’s a mobile phone, not a personal computer or a laptop. "

The report also pointed out that the penetration rate of mobile Internet services at the end of 2017 will increase by 31 percentage points to 54% on the basis of 2012; while fixed broadband in the same period will rise by 11 percentage points to 51%.

PricewaterhouseCoopers pointed out that there is still a lot of room for growth in global Internet access services-as of the end of 2012, only 40% of households used fixed broadband, while less than a quarter of people connected to the Internet through mobile devices.

It is expected that total global Internet access service expenditure will maintain an average annual compound growth rate (CAGR) of 11% over the next five years, and will exceed US $ 665 billion in 2017.

PwC pointed out in the report that this growth will be increasingly driven by emerging markets-by the end of 2017, only fixed broadband users and mobile Internet users in Brazil, China, India and Russia will account for 45% and 50% of the global total.

In Singapore, mobile access spending in 2013 is expected to reach 885 million US dollars, accounting for more than half of the country's total Internet access spending (more than fixed broadband). The United States and South Korea are expected to show similar trends this year, while the United Kingdom will wait until 2015.

Companies (such as Google) have been working hard to tap the user's market potential—for the first time, the Internet uses mobile devices instead of personal computers. Last year, the company provided some services (such as Google Search, Gmail and Google+) free Internet access in selected areas of the Philippines.

In March of this year, Facebook partnered with several telecom operators (including Indian operators) to allow users to access the social network's mail service (free or discounted) using various mobile applications on different platforms.
