Virtual Reality (VR) has started to step onto the stage, even though it still needs time to fully mature and integrate with Other technologies. However, its growing popularity cannot be stopped. Whether in gaming or everyday life, VR is offering users a more immersive and convenient experience. According to reports, Oculus plans to invest heavily in high-quality VR video content in 2018, aiming to develop a range of new and engaging VR experiences.
Oculus wants to reach a broader audience, but achieving this requires more than just ambition—it demands clear strategies and actionable steps. Fortunately, the gaming community's enthusiasm for new technology has helped VR gain traction. Yet, for VR to truly go mainstream, it must appeal to people beyond just gamers.
To expand the reach of VR, the head-mounted displays need to offer what the general public genuinely desires. Oculus understands this challenge and has created a series of innovative VR experiences, showcasing them at events like the Sundance Film Festival. These more compelling experiences are expected to attract a wider user base.
Of course, there are still challenges that VR faces. High costs of compatible PCs and VR headsets remain an issue, but solutions like the Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR are emerging as more accessible options. With their launch, the next big question becomes how to encourage consumers to purchase these devices.
Colum Slevin, head of Oculus' Experience Department, is optimistic about the future of the brand in 2018. He stated, “We’re reinvigorating in 2018 and working closely with VR storytellers and creators to bring the best stories to the market.†This collaboration aims to elevate the quality of content and provide users with unforgettable experiences.
Slevin also emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards for the projects they support. “I hope this approach leads to unique and special works,†he said. “But we are absolutely focused on improving the entire community because diversity is the source of creativity. I don’t believe there’s only one solution or one style that will make VR popular. We need a variety of approaches and different experiences.â€
He concluded by highlighting the significance of 6-degree-of-freedom (6DoF) technology, which enhances interactivity in VR. “We are very excited about the power of interactivity and the potential of 6DoF to unlock the full capabilities of VR,†he added. This technological advancement is seen as a key driver in making VR more engaging and widely adopted.
