Rumors have been circulating that LG Display is planning to establish an OLED panel factory in Guangzhou, China. Recently, the company officially confirmed these reports, stating that the new facility will focus on manufacturing large-sized OLED panels to meet the rising global demand for high-end TV screens. Although the project has finally received approval from South Korea, there are several conditions attached.
According to a report by foreign media, the South Korean Ministry of Trade announced on Tuesday that a regulatory committee has given the green light to LG Display's proposal to build a new OLED panel factory in China. This move is seen as a strategic step to expand production capacity and better serve international markets.
The decision came after LG Display first revealed its intention to invest in a large-scale OLED panel factory in Guangzhou five months ago. The company cited growing overseas demand for OLED TVs as the main driver behind the investment.
However, the South Korean government has set specific requirements for the approval. These include LG Display’s commitment to increasing the use of local materials and equipment in the factory, making future investments in South Korea, and enhancing security checks to ensure compliance with national regulations.
Despite the approval, LG Display has not yet made any official statement regarding the conditions or the next steps in the project. Analysts believe this move could significantly impact the global OLED supply chain and strengthen LG's position in the premium display market.
