JN516x wireless microcontrollers and evaluation kits are now available

Shanghai, China, January 23, 2013- NXP Semiconductors (Nasdaq: NXPI) recently announced the launch of the JN516x series of wireless microcontrollers for the Internet of Things, as well as simplified ZigBee®, JenNet-IP ™ and other IEEE 802.15 .4 Apply a new evaluation kit developed commercially. The JN516x-EK001 evaluation kit provides all the hardware and software components required for product design, and includes multiple demonstrations such as JenNet-IP-based smart lighting systems, multiple energy measurement applications using ZigBee Smart Energy, ZigBee Light Link, and RF4CE control systems . The JN516x evaluation kit is designed for use with NXP JN5161, JN5164 or JN5168 wireless microcontrollers. These microcontrollers use an enhanced 32-bit RISC processor, with first-class memory options-up to 256 KB of embedded flash memory, 4 KB on-chip EEPROM and 32 KB RAM. The JN516x series devices also include IEEE802.15.4 2.4-GHz transceivers and a wide range of analog and digital peripherals.

The JN516x evaluation kit provides all the components needed for system development, including a series of wireless carrier boards, plug-in expansion boards, USB connectors, a Remote Control, a specially programmed Internet router that runs enhanced OpenWRT firmware, and a complete software design Kit. This comprehensive development kit makes it easy to design IoT solutions using ZigBee, JenNet-IP or RF4CE. Designers can use various demonstrations included in the kit to quickly generate a proof-of-concept system. The software in the system can then be used in end products using N516x ICs or modules. The demo includes:

· Intelligent lighting demonstration based on JenNet-IP, using router to support WLAN or Internet connection

· ZigBee Smart Energy demonstration that allows users to experience energy service portals (via USB connectors), emergency displays (using display expansion boards), independent power and gas meters or range extenders

· ZigBee Light Link demo that allows designers to remotely control the colored LEDs on the lighting expansion board

· RF4CE demo that allows users to select, play, advance, stop, pause or change the volume on the Windows Media® Player application

Smart homes and energy products at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show

At last week's Consumer Electronics Show, NXP showed a number of brand new customer products using its wireless microcontrollers, including a compact and battery-free wireless energy harvesting switch designed by Cherry that can replace traditional wired switches. The required RF energy is generated by the mechanical operation of the switch, and the data is sent wirelessly through RF technology without the need for a complicated and expensive connection system.
