In the automotive industry and manufacturing industry, we found several very interesting points.

First, the team age and education . As an example, there are about 3,000 people below me. The average age is 28 and it is very young. But in the automotive field, I remember that the average age of all people I met was basically no less than 30 years old, and most of them were in their 40s. At the time, I was wondering why there were no people around the age of twenty or thirty in the car.

I have seen a lot of graduate students and doctoral students in the automotive industry. As I continued to communicate with them, I found an interesting feature. Autobots were very comfortable within the system, they started their careers very early, and it was not until they were in their 40s that they really started to emerge. . But who has a young mindset in this age? We often say that age is not important, and the most important thing is to be young. How many people in the car people still maintain a young mind?

Followed by thinking . I remember talking to the team for the first time. All my friends in the car would ask: If a new company makes a car and has more than 20,000 parts, can it not be good enough and safe enough? All manufacturing, design, and processes are from a safety perspective.

From our point of view, I met many friends in the automobile circle and asked them: Why does China not build a particularly good, especially different car? They replied: The car we built is already very good. I asked: Why do you think this car is good, and then they will tell me to see the car's brand, engine and so on. This is totally different from the Internet people standing outside the automotive industry. why?

I think there is a very important one. In the past research and development of the automotive industry, he did not drive more than half a million cars. He did not really spend a long time at work to understand the impact of the car on him. . In the field of the Internet is completely different, basically we will use different applications, including domestic and international competitors, we will continue to use different software applications and services. In the automotive field, it is actually very difficult.

Third, data . The internet is very data-oriented. I went to a very famous car team in China at the time. I asked them, do you pay attention to the data? He said he was very concerned. I ask how your data is generated? Where is it stored? how to use? I discovered that he didn't know it. When asked carefully, the original design person and the person who used the data were completely different departments. The department that used the data would not manage, manufacture, market, and develop. This is very strange in the Internet field. Is a closed loop, why not use it in the automotive industry.

Another is iteration . The Internet is very much focused on the software platform. Besides the software platform, the hardware is also very important. Why can't the car be upgraded? My first car navigation couldn't rise for several years. Xiaopeng car design at the beginning, just want to be able to upgrade the hardware every year. In the past, no one in the automotive industry thought that because upgrading once required a lot of money, the safety of iterations was great, and what to do after the cars sold after the iteration, and no one really thought about this issue.

In addition, there is no product manager role in the automotive team. The positioning of a car often comes from the market and from the responsible supervisors, but in the Internet company, the product manager is the boss, has the right to understand the entire product life cycle, has control over the entire product, why not in the automotive industry? ? Although the entire automotive life cycle and process are very long, there is no end-to-end person in charge. We see that this is a very big problem and a huge opportunity.

Fourth, positioning . I saw a news on the Internet and said that the day before the Beijing Auto Show, Beijing had 76 new model launches. 76, I thought at the time that if we were to make browsers, search engines, maps and videos, if we had 76 competing products released a day, it would be a sea of ​​blood. I think the Internet market is not so competitive, but the auto market has enough competition. It is a sea of ​​blood.

We also saw several issues that have been summarized after the Internet entered the automotive industry:

First, time . The Internet is very fast-paced, and now entrepreneurship can be successful in as little as three years.

In the past, many successful startups required a decade. UC has reached 12 years today, YY has reached 10 years today, and Alibaba has 17 years. Many excellent companies actually take many years to gradually bloom.

The time for a car in the automotive industry to come out far exceeds our original imagination: at least 48 months to 64 months, which is also based on a very good and experienced basis. In fact, 48 months and 64 months are not enough to build a good car. Today, Xiaopeng’s automotive team has been developing in this industry for more than 30 months, but it will take more than 20 months or even more in the future. It will be possible to do a good job with multiple hardware iterations and software iterations.

The second point was that I did not really realize a problem at that time. The Internet did product design, research and development, released products, and began to operate later. Doing cars is completely different. The materials, manufacturing, and cost of automotive engineering are not enough. How to solve the supply chain, how to solve the time, how to coordinate with suppliers, and the whole engineering problem is completely different from our programming problems. There is a process after the engineering problem. We need to make a door. The thickness and height of the door are in error. I'm talking about how many millimeters there must be and how safe it is. In the research and development of the Internet, there is no need to think about technological issues. There are still large-scale eras, and there is no problem of large-scale replication in the Internet.

From a global point of view, most people think that the value of manufacturing is not so great, the Internet is lighter, and the value of the Internet's data is more valuable. But from a different point of view, with the operating system, the Internet, and the Internet of Things, we will find that both the mobile phone and the car may have their own artificial intelligence in the future, so I believe that the future integration of manufacturing with the Internet will become better and better. Now the Internet Investment, light Internet investment is getting less and less and more and more difficult. In the future, the Internet will certainly be combined with more traditional businesses. This is a big trend.

Finally, what kind of people are we looking for? We are looking for a brand new car and a young team on the internet. Today the team is young and it is an average of only 30s and less than 40 years old in the entire automotive industry. It is a very young car team. The team's core technology must be done by itself, not outsourced, and must be done in a car that is not the same as other electric cars. His soul lies in autonomous driving, his applications and services in the future, and data and connectivity.
