LED rises OSRAM plans to lay off about 1/10 in Germany

As the demand for traditional lighting was reduced due to the rise of LED and management changes, OSRAM GmbH, a German LED company owned by German engineering giant Siemens AG, said on the 17th that the company plans to reduce the number of employees in Germany by 2014. 850 people, 200 of whom may be transferred to Siemens. Dow Jones reported that OSRAM spokespersons are reluctant to explain whether they will implement this practice outside Germany. OSRAM employs about 41,000 people worldwide and 1/4 in Germany. Wolfgang Dehen, CEO of OSRAM, stated that LED is the future trend and the company will actively promote structural reforms.

The scale of OSRAM's global lighting business is second only to Philips. With the increase in global economic variables, falling prices and fierce competition, OSRAM’s value has shrunk significantly since March. The company delayed the listing plan in September (2011).

Siemens Chief Financial Officer Joe Kaeser stated in early January that OSRAM’s initial public offering (IPO) plan will still be implemented, but this time it is not the company’s top priority. The ups and downs of the stock market are the reason why Osram postpones the listing of stocks.
