Yang Xiong Holds Talks with Chairman of State Grid

Yang Xiong, deputy secretary of the Shanghai municipal party committee and mayor, held a working meeting with the chairman of the State Grid Corporation of China and party secretary Liu Zhenya. The two sides reached more consensus on strengthening the cooperation between the city and the enterprises and promoting the UHV power grid construction.

Yang Xiong expressed his gratitude to the State Grid Corporation for its strong support for Shanghai's economic and social development over the years, as well as its outstanding energy security during major events such as the Shanghai World Expo and the AsiaInfo Summit. He said that as a large city with a population of more than 24 million people, Shanghai Energy is highly dependent on foreign countries. The State Grid Corporation of China vigorously promotes the construction of UHV power grids, and will play an important role in resolving the contradiction between Shanghai's power supply and demand, upgrading the security and stability level of the power grid, adjusting the energy structure, strengthening energy conservation and emission reduction, and improving the air environment. Shanghai is willing to further strengthen pragmatic cooperation with the State Grid Corporation of China in UHV construction and electrical and electrical R&D. It also welcomes the State Grid Corporation of China to make full use of the innovation advantages of the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone to achieve greater development.

Liu Zhenya thanked the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government for their long-term concern and support to the State Grid Corporation of China. He said that Shanghai is an international metropolis and has high requirements for energy security and ecological civilization. In order to better meet the needs of economic and social development in Shanghai, the State Grid Corporation will accelerate the construction of UHV power grids, increase Shanghai's external power transmission channels and transmission capacity, and significantly improve the quality, safety, and stability of power supply. At the same time, the State Grid Corporation of China will combine Shanghai's long-term development orientation, speed up the construction and renovation of Shanghai's power grids at all levels during the “12th Five-Year Plan” period, comprehensively increase the level of smart grid, and strive to build a world-class urban power grid that is “smart, efficient, and reliable”.

It is reported that according to the plan of the State Grid Corporation of China, by 2020, Shanghai Power Grid will build a "two-transit" and "always" UHV project, and the input power capacity outside the zone will exceed 24 million kilowatts.
